Taking care of a gourd mate is important to maintain its quality and prolong its lifespan. Here are some useful tips:
1. Regular cleaning
After each use, completely empty the used yerba mate using a spoon (never use your straw for this step). Use a soft brush to clean the inside and be sure to remove any yerba mate residue.
2. Proper drying
After emptying the mate, dry the inside of your mate with a paper towel. Let it air dry completely to allow air to circulate and dry completely, thus avoiding the presence of mold.
3. Avoid impacts and sudden changes in temperature
Pumpkin is delicate and can crack if dropped or exposed to extreme temperature changes. Try to handle it carefully and avoid leaving it in very hot or cold places.
4. Keep the mate cured
From time to time, especially if you notice the pumpkin becoming more porous or absorbing too much moisture, repeat the initial curing process to keep it in good condition.
5. Do not use strong detergents
Avoid using harsh detergents or aggressive chemicals to clean your mate, as they can affect its flavor and the quality of the gourd. Remember that the leather is genuine, it should not come into direct contact with water or any type of detergent, this can stain/ruin the look of the leather and potentially your mate.
6. Don't drop your mate!
The ferrule of your mate can vary between steel or nickel silver, sometimes a combination of the two! A damaged ferrule is usually beyond repair.
7. "My light bulb got dirty, now what?"
This is a normal reaction between nickel and brass. It is possible that your bulb/light bulb may become "stained" due to grass or extended contact with water/humidity. Don't worry! Cleaning your bulb with toothpaste or a non-toxic metal polish will help restore the shine and beauty of your bulb.
By following these tips, you will be able to enjoy your gourd mate for a long time, maintaining its quality and preserving its authentic flavor.
